Abstract

Giant Gourami (Osphronemus goramy) or Gurame as Indonesian would call it, is a freshwater fish that commonly found in Southeast Asia and widely aquacultured due to its high economic value. Unfortunately, Gurame is known to be highly sensitive and prone to stress so that economical stakes are high for the farmer. Genetics control could be used as a way to manage livestock health and disease, but genetical information concerning Gurame fish is extremely limited. Therefore, in this article, we reported our effort in isolating melanocytes gene Melanocortin - 1 - Receptor (MC1R), a gene associated with stress.
