TOXICITY OF SELECTED COMMERCIAL SOFT DRINK To Daphnia magna

Abstract

Safety guarantee for various commercially available soft drinks is currently unavailable. In this study, toxicity of selected commercial soft drinks were tested by using Daphnia magna as test animal and chemical content of the beverages was also analyzed. The results showed that LC50 24h for Panter 33,05%; Meico 40,41%; Teh Bukit 50,70%; Teh Zegar 42,93%; dan Degan 40,84%, and LC50 48h Panter 22,85%; Meico 23,26% ; Teh Bukit 24,62%; Teh Zegar 27,46 %; dan Degan 25,67 %. Less than 100% LC50 value raised concern regarding safety and health risk of drinking the selected commercial soft drinks.
