Extracurricular band as a vehicle for improving students' musical competence of SMA Negeri 3 Cimahi
Abstract
Extracurricular band is one of the activities that offers opportunities for students to learn to play musical instruments, sing and collaborate with peers in forming a music group. Students' musical competence plays a significant role in shaping the process and results of learning development in band activities. Lack of attention to the condition of student competence, motivation and student interest has led to a lack of improvement in their musical experience, so researchers conducted extracurricular band learning activities with the aim of improving student musical competence. This study used a qualitative research design with a classroom action research method approach (PTK) with the implementation of two cycles aimed at determining the success of the learning activities carried out. This study shows that there is an increase in student competence through a variety of methods, namely the imitation method, lecture method, demonstration method, drill method and assistance by researchers as well as with peer approach strategies and guide on the side to students during learning.
