Abstract

Abstract: Natural light and High Tech are two key elements in Norman Foster's architectural works. These two elements are closely related and greatly influence the final outcome of Foster's works. This article discusses the relationship between the use of natural light and High Tech in Norman Foster's works and how the use of both elements creates innovative and energy-efficient buildings. The use of natural light in Foster's works is showcased through the use of transparent glass that allows sunlight to enter the building freely. By using natural light produced by the sun, the use of artificial lighting can be reduced, and the dependence on electricity can also be minimized. Meanwhile, High Tech is an important element in Foster's works that allows buildings to achieve high energy efficiency and performance. High Tech includes the use of modern technologies such as ventilation systems, lighting controls, and the use of new and innovative materials. Foster utilizes the latest technology in building design, including the use of automation systems and sensors to regulate temperature and lighting. The use of these two elements not only enhances energy efficiency and occupant comfort, but also creates visually and technically stunning buildings. Some examples of buildings that showcase clever use of natural light and High Tech are The Gherkin in London, the Hearst Tower in New York, and the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank in Hong Kong. In conclusion, Norman Foster's works demonstrate that natural light and High Tech are interrelated elements that play a significant role in the design of efficient and sustainable buildings.
