Abstract

Abstract: This research is motivated by the low learning outcomes on mathematics subjects of fourth grade students of elementary school. This study aims to describe the application of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach to improve student learning outcomes. The research method used is Classroom Action Research to adapt the Kemmis and Taggart model which is implemented in two cycles. This research is conducted by applying three key principles of RME as a learning step that is didactical phenomenology, guided re-invention / progressive matematization and self depelopped models. From cycle I and cycle II obtained value with average is 68, 89 while for success Percentage of completeness cycle I and Cycle II that is 68% and 91%. Based on the data, it can be concluded that the application of realistic mathematics education (RME) approach can improve the learning outcomes of fourth graders.
