This research is based on the lack of discussion skills of five-grader elementary school students. Tis research is done in theree cycles with 35 students as the object of the research. This classroom action research is teacher an student activity instrument, field notes, and discussion ability instrument. When the discussion in the learning process was going on, different strategies were done in each cycle. In cycle I, the students discussion ability achieved 45,71%, in cycle II the percentage increased and became 67,42 % and in cycle III the percentage incerased 88 %. The application of conferencing approach can improve discussion ability in each cycle. Thus, the researcher recommend this approach in teaching learning activity especiaaly disussion activity.
